In life we all start the process of learning and growing in a similar way, and more or less at a similar speed. If we take the process of talking, a baby communicates first by crying, after 6 months they start mumbling and maybe start saying words like mama, papa ( that makes parents really happy and they never forget which word was first 🙂 ). After 12 months, they respond to simple instructions, they mumble a few words, they try to repeat sounds. After 18 months, they continue to learn new words but not too many. After 2 years! they understand simple instructions. and the process continues for many years. Do parents give up on a child learning to talk??? NEVER.
So lets translate that to adult learning: how many of you give up a language because after a couple of months you still can speak it, taking 1 class a week??? How many of you quit a dance class, because after a month you can’t dance the way you want and you think you haven’t learned ?? How many of you think you failed, because after 1 year you are not a Master in a subject?? Needless to say, there are good and bad instructors and good and bad methods, but you need to allow yourself to learn first and have the patience to do it.
If you look for quick fixes, 1 day learning course, how to loose 10 pounds in 1 week, 1 week course to get a dance certificate, 21 days online course that solves everything…..
you are a MICROWAVE, you want a 5 second solution, pressing one button.
If on the other hand, confronted with a problem like, you feel you are really overweight, or really want to learn a dance, or really in need of a language, and then really get into a strict diet, take many dance classes, study hard, until suddenly you feel….. it is OK, it is not that bad, it is not that needed, and take it easy, get sloppy, stop studding, until you feel the urge again, the pounds adding!, someone else got better that you at dancing!, you still can’t speak that language! and start the process all over….
then you are a PRESURE COOKER!, with pressure you do something, without it… you don’t.
Now, if you want to reach a goal, even not knowing how to get there, but slowly you keep working at it, when you daze off, come back to your commitments, not giving up and slowly reaching that goal…..
There is nothing wrong with Microwave and Pressure cookers, they are useful in many situations, but for your Dreams and your Dance, be an OVEN and Bake a Great Cake!!!!
